In church, a young orphan weeps, praying for his mother to come and take him home. Suddenly, he hears a voice from behind say softly, “I’ll take you,” causing him to turn pale with surprise. Children left behind by their parents often carry deep, unspoken feelings, and Alan, just six years old, was one of those children—yearning for his mother but never given the chance to see her.
One day, little Alan’s world changed during a fortuitous meeting at church. He was sobbing and pleading with God to send his mother to him, explaining to him how his life would be very different if she were there.
He was softly weeping, his voice filled with innocent questions as he spoke to God, when a gentle, unknown voice suddenly spoke from behind, offering to take him home.
“They say you hear every word, Jesus,” he murmured earnestly. “My foster home caregivers told me to knock on your door and ask for what I need. I just want my mother. Could you please send her to me?”
“My boy, Alan! I’m here to get you. I’m here to bring you home.
Alan looked at the crucifix and folded his hands in prayer, crying. His beautiful pink cheeks were drenched, and his eyes were a searing crimson.
“You answer everyone’s prayers, according to my nanny. So why don’t you respond to mine?
Alan’s shrieking resonated into the vestibule. He was devastated. Since children there frequently made fun of him, he did not want to go back to the shelter. They made fun of him all the time, saying that he would have to wait for someone to adopt him because his mother would never come back.
When he heard other children in the shelter say things like, “Nobody would be interested in taking a crybaby like you home,” they were brutal. That day, Alan sobbed uncontrollably and prayed to God for a response.
“Alan, shhh!” Nancy, his guardian, cut him off. It’s a place of worship. Don’t cry and keep silent. People are observing you. Calm down, please.
Alan made an effort to hold back his tears. He continued to gaze at the cross until he noticed a mother and child entering the church. He broke down in sobs once more, unable to control them.
“You’re not responding to me, Jesus. I want to be with my mother like that girl, please. Why doesn’t Jesus respond, Nanny? Why hasn’t he told me anything, even though you promised me he answered all of our prayers?
Nancy gazed at the youngster, smiling at his naive inquiries.
The voice of a woman stated abruptly, “I’ll take you,” from behind them. “I’ve come for you, my darling. Stop sobbing, please.
Nancy and Alan were taken aback. When they looked back, the mother with the child Alan had just seen was standing behind them.
“My boy, Alan! I’m here to get you. “I’m here to bring you home,” she exclaimed.
“Who are you? “How did you find out the child’s name?” Nancy asked, embracing Alan.
“Annette is my name. Alan’s mother is me. I see him here every day to make sure he’s okay.
“Your son? Have you got any evidence?
Annette pulled out a picture of her clutching a newborn. “I left him at the shelter’s doorstep six years ago.”
“This is not possible. When I initially took Alan up off the doorstep that wet night, he looked like this. I discovered a baby on the patio after hearing his loud cries. You left your baby, but why? What makes you such a callous mother?
Annette broke down in tears and shared the worst story she had ever heard.
She unintentionally became pregnant with her boyfriend’s child six years ago when she was sixteen years old. He left her and relocated to a different state, preventing her from communicating with him after she told him this. Annette was unable to follow her parents’ advice to end the pregnancy.
“I had to decide between forgetting my parents and the legacy I would inherit or leaving my kid behind. I left my child at the shelter and went on because I was too young and inexperienced to become a mother.
Annette went on to say she married another man after graduating from college. Her daughter from this marriage was Amy, the girl accompanying her.
“Despite my best efforts, I was unable to forget my son. I frequently come to this church to observe him from afar. However, I was unable to contain my emotions after listening to him weep for his mother today. I would like to bring him home with me.
Annette quickly started the legal procedures to regain custody of Alan. She and he underwent DNA testing, and the results showed that they were 99 percent identical. She was able to bring Alan home and mend their relationship, but it cost her dearly.
Annette was cut off from her parents’ lives and their will once they turned against her. Even worse, her spouse, who was aware of her dubious past, turned against her.
“You spoke the truth about your failed connection with your ex-boyfriend and your belief that you would never want that child again, which is why I married you. However, your parents have now disowned you as well. I refuse to father someone else’s child, you see. Her husband Jason declared, “Our marriage is over, but I’m ready to provide for my daughter financially,” and promptly filed for divorce.
Soon later, Annette and Jason got divorced. Annette was thrilled to see Alan return and was granted custody of her daughter.
“Never come to us begging for money again” was the last thing Annette heard her parents say, and she was okay with that. Despite not having her parents’ money or their approval, she felt that her life was full.
She got a nice career, moved overseas with her two amazing kids, and is just looking forward to a happy life.
What does this narrative teach us?
Our prayers are answered by God. Alan would weep and beg God to send his mother to him every time he went to church. When he heard a voice offering to take him one day, it was his mother, and his prayers were answered.
Don’t leave your kids behind and punish them for a mistake you made. Annette’s parents advised her to leave the baby behind when she became pregnant at the age of 16. Unaware of the impact it would have on her son as he grew up, she followed their instructions and went on.
